A SERBIAN FILM (2010)

After watching this I feel like I never want to wind up in Serbia.  Probably the most fucked up movie I've seen since MARTYRS.  A retired porn star gets a bunch of money to make one last movie.  It turns out to be a screwy artsy/snuff type of porn film.  Bad things happen to everyone in this including kids and even a newborn baby in one scene that will not leave your head for a long time after this movie is over.  Amazingly well done for the subject matter and content on display here.  Watch it if you want to be shocked and disgusted by a cinematic descent into porno hell.

TENEMENT (1985)

Ah yes, an 80's movie that belongs up there with THE EXTERMINATOR and all those trashy Italian post-nuke movies for sleaze-filled excellence. Directed by the great Roberta Findley who made a bunch of pornos and along with husband Michael shot all the scenes in the movie SNUFF except for the snuff scene itself which was added a few years later. I would say this here is Roberta's masterpiece of low-down dirty cinema. You get a standard 80's multiracial gang terrorizing an apartment building and that's pretty much the plot. Cigar-face from THE TOXIC AVENGER is one of the gang members. The "highlights" include a rape scene where a woman is violated by a broom handle, a castration, a bunch of slashings and various other gory deaths. A good time is guaranteed if you're into real 42nd Street type movies.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? (1962)

"A bold essay in the art of the macabre"  Quite the disturbing Hollywood classic. Stars old-timey legends Bette Davis and Joan Crawford in two pretty unflattering roles. Davis' Baby Jane bringing to mind The Joker and a female Leatherface in its ugly insanity. I can't imagine too many current big name stars making themselves so unappealing for a role. Hell, even Charlize Theron in MONSTER wasn't as hideous as this. Victor Buono is great as a money hungry musician. He would go on to be King Tut in the Batman show. Director Robert Aldrich would go on to make THE DIRTY DOZEN and that womens wrestling movie. Joan Crawford went on to be known as MOMMIE DEAREST in real life. All in all an interesting off-kilter look at celebrity sibling rivalry/insanity.

BLACK CHRISTMAS (1974)

This one definitely set the template for the whole slasher genre that came a few years later.  Features a genuinely creepy killer/perverted prank caller, John Saxon as a cop and Margot 'Lois Lane' Kidder as a slutty sorority girl.  It's pretty amazing that this was directed by Bob Clark who went on to make CHRISTMAS STORY and PORKY'S.  I can't imagine three more different types of films.  Not a lot of blood is shown but check it out if you have any interest in slasher flicks at all just to see where it kinda all started.  Haven't seen the Hollywood remake but I hear it's pretty shitty and over-explains everything which seems to be the trend now.

?

This very blog here was recently mentioned on this blog over here:

Mr. Rondal named this very blog as one of his 15 favorites at the moment. While this boggles my mind to imagine (mainly because I've always written this with the idea in mind that no one would care enough to actually read it) I will take this spot to thank him for the mention. Now the rules of this thing involve naming another 15 blogs that you like. I'm not sure if there actually are 15 that I read on any kind of regular basis but here's a few I dig:

BLACK SHEEP (2006)

I saw this before on DVD and didn't really like it all that much.  Seeing it in a theater with drunken morons definitely converted me though.  Maybe it's just a case of being in the right mood to watch a comedy about killer sheep and mutated man-sheep monsters.  There's plenty of grue and gore including a sheep getting molested and a cock getting bitten and pulled off in revenge, a pit full of mutant sheep fetuses and gratuitous sheep balls.  Being made in New Zealand it does come off as a throw back to Peter Jacksons early stuff like DEAD ALIVE.  The sheep-monsters made me think of GODMONSTER OF INDIAN FLATS but only because I am a disturbed movie geek who has seen too much garbage.

DEATH WISH (1974)

Yes, the grand-daddy of all revenge flicks. The one they've been remaking over and over ever since. It couldn't be a more simple plot. A mans wife and daughter are attacked and brutalized. Of course the thing that makes it special is that man is Charles Bronson. He portrays such a likable charismatic guy that you can't help but cheer him as he blows away mugger after mugger. It's also amazing to see Jeff Goldblum as the Jughead-hat wearing would-be rapist who sticks his cock in Bronsons daughters face. It spawned 4 sequels each one getting more and more ridiculous as they went on. Check it out for a sleazy slice of 70's New York.

PREDATORS (2010)

Kind of a cool set-up where assorted assassins and other criminal types are dropped onto an alien planet as sport for the PREDATORS.  We're never really told why though except that's just what the Predators do I guess.  There's so much typical action movie nonsense that it drags the whole thing down and makes it pretty forgettable.  I was never a huge fan of any of the PREDATOR movies in the first place so maybe that's why I didn't find this one so remarkable.  Not scary enough and not gory enough and for an action movie it gets pretty boring for long bits.  I would at least expect more explosions from modern-day Hollywood.  It also pissed me off that Danny Trejo is barely in this.  Directed by a man named Nimrod so that's cool.

SISTER STREET FIGHTER: HANGING BY A THREAD (1974)

I never realized there even was a series of SISTER STREET FIGHTER movies until I picked up a box set of them a few months back. This one, which is actually Part 2, I believe is my favorite out of all of them. Although it doesn't feature Sonny Chiba it instead features an unexpected torture scene, lots of eye violence and girls who have diamonds surgically inserted into their asses for smuggling. One weird thing that I found is that the supporting characters are way more interesting than LADY STREET FIGHTER herself. The way they're introduced is cool too with titles telling us their style of martial arts expertise.  The plot is almost exactly the same in all of these so I wouldn't recommend watching them all in a row but check this one out if any.

MASSACRE MAFIA STYLE (1978)

I re-watched this again recently and it was even better on the second viewing.  You get crazy bright beautiful 70's blood as a result of many mob executions, you get mobsters being blown up, you get absurd racism with one pimp referred to as Super-spook throughout the whole movie , a crucifixion, acting that's about as good as someone obviously reading their lines can be and the best thing is the totally nutso speeches given by writer, director and star Mr. Duke Mitchell.  He goes on about how much he loves Italian mothers and other such topics as if the whole movie was just an excuse for him to give these heartfelt speeches.  It is a thing of beauty to behold.  You keep waiting for everyone around him to get teary-eyed as he talks about how downtrodden the Sicilians have been through history.  I certainly wouldn't disagree with anything Duke says.  If the idea of a cheap-jack GODFATHER movie with scenes of unintentional hilarity appeal to you then this is your movie.  My copy of this is titled THE EXECUTIONER but M.M.S. is such a catchier name.

You also get one of the greatest opening scenes in anything which you see most of here:
