The first half of this movie seems like a really crappy version of FIRST BLOOD where we get a Vietnam vet(John Savage) returning to his hometown and getting hassled by everyone. A bar fight is the highlight of this section. For the 2nd bit it becomes a more typical war film where our hero gets involved in smuggling guns for some revolutionary South Americans. There are a few explosions, lots of gun fights and it's all fairly unremarkable.
So this ugly shot-on-video thing is trying to recreate a giallo film. It was filmed in Mexico, Argentina and New Zealand which I believe are 3 countries no actual giallos were ever made in. Some of the soundtrack cues are fairly accurate and they got the placement of J & B whiskey correct. Besides this there's not much to recommend. A head gets lopped off at one point which was gory. Maybe if they had cast the lead in the more traditional macho Italian leading man mode it would have been a bit more believable as something not made in 2018. As always, stick with the classics.
I originally bought this DVD for 50 cents about 15 years ago so I figured it was about time I gave it a spin. What you get is an Italian crime-caper/comedic drama that starts out with this criminal fellow(writer/director/star Rossano Brazzi) getting berated by his mom because he has no money even though he is a master thief. Then later-on Ann Margret shows up and things get a bit sexier. Ann goes skinny-dipping at one point but I'm guessing they probably used a body-double for those scenes since we never see her face and bare-ass in the same shot. Then finally there's this big robbery at an opera which involves using electricity to put people to sleep somehow. Not much of this made a whole lotta sense and it's all pretty dumb. There's some stupid THREE STOOGES-esque fight scenes and that, along with some scantily-clad 60s ladies, were the only things that made this even slightly interesting. Give it as look only if you really like nonsensical Eurocheese.
The Italian title translates to 7 MEN AND ONE BRAIN.
This Argentinian horror flick, actually made in 1965, about a creepy masked fellow who stalks gals so he can inject them with heroin and keep them around as slaves is a bit too leisurely-paced to stay awake through. After many attempts I did manage to make it to the ending but outside of a very disturbing villainous creep and some effective atmosphere there's not much else to recommend unless you just like watching long scenes with eerie music. There is a bit of nudity flashed here and there but overall this is a dull one. AKA THE DEADLY ORGAN
Director Emilio Vieyra went on to make THE CURIOUS DR. HUMPP and that one is a way better(and stranger) choice.
Very strange movie here. There's this talking brain in a jar who controls this doctor who sends out his monstrous experiment, who wears sparkly platform shoes and likes to play music for naked ladies, to capture various couples, some hippies in an orgy, a coupla lesbians and a stripper. From there our titular Dr. Humpp fills them full of an aphrodisiac and extracts "bodily fluids" from them while they're screwing in order to keep himself alive. Oh and he also has an army of robot-like henchman to guard his castle and dispose of the bodies he's used up. What the point of all this is I'm not totally clear, something about finding the key to immortal life or something. For a movie that's chock fulla so many bizarre things it does drag a bit and it's runtime seems a bit long. On the other hand it's so strange that you kinda have to at least watch this one once just to say you did. It kinda reminded me of a more sex-filled AWFUL DR. ORLOFF and if that sounds good to you give it a look.
This was originally released in Argentina under the title THE VENGEANCE OF SEX with way less sex scenes(17 minutes or so of them) which were inserted by the American distributor to make it an "adult" film. This would probably make the film flow a lot better.
I'm really only familiar with Argentinian sex goddess Isabel Sarli from the amazing film FUEGO where she plays an uncontrollable nymphomaniac. It was directed by and starred her lover in real life Armando Bo and he seemed to know exactly how to show off this well-endowed lady to the fullest. That film was from 1969 while this one was made 7 years earlier by someone else and is completely tame in comparison. Sarli does play a prostitute as the movie opens but from there she flashes back to her boring life living with some dullard well-digger/farmer and unfortunately that's where most of the plot takes place. I use the word plot pretty loosely too since there isn't much of anything going on and this has to be one of the most boring exercises in tedium. Occasionally we get a few scenes back at the whorehouse where Sarli works were we glimpse some quick toe-sucking and very softcore humping. I think I may have seen a millisecond of nipple but I'm not sure. To make things even worse it seems these only mildly interesting nudie/sex scenes were filmed and added later on so I can't imagine how boring this movie was in it's original form. I think I'm just gonna stick to Sarli's films directed by Bo for maximum entertainment value.
Made back in The 60's in Argentina this sexploitation classic was banned in its home country for its lewd sexual displays(consisting of star Isabel Sarli's tremendous boobs and hetero plus homosexual slutty antics). A favorite of director John Waters(no doubt due to its similarities to Russ Meyers films) and you can see where Divine was inspired with the amazingly pouty and gyration-filled performance of Ms. Sarli. I find it amazing in reading more about Sarli that she was, in real life, a quiet Catholic gal who hated doing nude scenes but only did them to help out her lover(director Armando Bo) and I'm sure her assets helped sell many tickets. If this little factoid is true then I would rate this as one of the greatest(and maybe campiest) performances of all time. I also feel that in addition to the obvious sex for sex's sake there is a, surely unintentional, feminist message throughout the film. I mean Sarli's Laura character seems pretty content with her life of sleeping around and enjoying continual lesbian romps with her maid up until the point where she gets married to a man who wants to possess her completely. This being the 60's and being South America this theme isn't explored very fully and relegates any lesbianic tendencies of hers to being unnatural urges brought on by her insatiable "sickness". After viewing this you will likely have visions of Latino boobs dancing through your head and as an added bonus the theme song "FUEGO!" will also be stuck in there for a while. Watching this today it all comes off as a hilariously campy film that was made with what I'm pretty sure at the time of filming were somewhat serious intentions, at least as serious as a film primarily made to show off a woman's huge breasts can be.
