EMANUELLE: FIRST CONTACT (1994)

 There were a whole series of these softcore Emanuells in space films starring Krista Allen made for Cinemax(Skinemax!) back in the 90s. While she is certainly a beautiful woman to watch frolic naked this is a pretty bady-edited mess of a movie. We get a Star Trek-influenced tale of some aliens beaming down to Earth to find out the mating habits of humans, mainly by just banging a bunch of ladies. They try and shoe-horn a love triangle(rectangle?) into the ending. None of it is very engaging and I don't think I really need to watch any of the other entries in this despite their enticing titles. EMANUELLE IN AMERICA (1977)

  I've always thought of this one as my favorite of the "Black Emanuelle" films(7th in the series) but after rewatching it recently I think EMANUELLE AND THE LAST CANNIBALS and LOVE CAMP have surpassed it for me as far as being entertaining and overall less boring. That being said though this one certainly has the most memorably gratuitous scenes of depravity out of all these movies. In the uncensored version you get a lady jacking off a horse, some fairly realistic snuff movie scenes and hardcore sucking and fucking. Unfortunately there are also long boring bits inbetween that and a very nonsensical ending that takes place on an island inhabited by an African tribe? that Emanuelle(Laura Gemser) gets sold off to. Worth a look for sleazoid Eurotrash fantatics though. AKA BRUTAL NIGHTS

EMANUELLE AND THE WHITE SLAVE TRADE (1978)

  This entry in the "Black Emanuelle" series(the 13th or 14th, it gets a little blurry!) has quite the leisurely pace to it for a good chunk of the film. There is plenty of sexual hijinks and eurobush though to keep all the pervs happy as our heroine, Laura Gemser, goes undercover to expose a prostitution/slavery ring. There is a pretty wacky standout tranny kung fu scene, multiple gang rapes(both of the friendly and unfriendy variety) and Gemser narrowly escaping from a lobotomy like some kinda super spy! For director Joe D'Amato this is a bit skimpy on the more extreme elements(especially when compared to stuff like EMANUELLE IN AMERICA and EMANUELLE AND THE LAST CANNIBALS) which brings it down a bit for me but still worth a watch for completists.

EMANUELLE AND THE LAST CANNIBALS (1977)

  The idea of mixing a softcore sex flick with a cannibal movie is an insane one, so of course Eurotrash legend Joe D'Amato gave it a shot with this and because it's so nuts it's one of my favorites in the "Black Emanuelle" series. It starts out more in the softcore porn vein and then once we leave classic sleazy 70s New York City for the Amazon it delves headlong into more traditional cannibal movie territory. Nipples and vaginas get cut off or open, heads roll and intestines get ripped out and munched on. No skimping on the sex or gore here so it's hard to say anything bad about this unless that's not what you are looking for. 

The lovely Laura Gemser returns, DR BUTCHER himself, Donald O' Brien, shows up and multiple cannibals have a gut-chomping freakout of a time! Classic 70s sleaze!

LAURE (1976)

 Probably the most interesting thing about this EMMANUELLE-rip-off sexplotation flick is that it's the only EMMANULLE movie(it also goes by the name of FOREVER EMMANUELLE) that actually features the real life lady who the character is based on. Before seeing this I didn't even know there was a real Emmanuelle but apparently it's a lady named Marayat Bibidh a.k.a. Emmanuelle Arsan(who looks a lot more like the Black Emmanuelle, Laura Gemser, than the original version played by Sylvia Kristel). She was also allegedly the director of this film though she's not credited. That might be because it was actually her husband(the lengthy-named Louis-Jacques Rollet-Andrian) who did a bunch of the directing (before quitting when he didn't get to make the pro-swinging epic he envisioned) and also wrote the books in the first place and then credited them to his wife's alias. I guess it's for the best that no one is named as director because this isn't a very good movie. It's filled with artsy-fartsy sex scenes and inane dialogue about the nature of love and relationships. There's also a primitive island tribe that unfortunately doesn't turn out to be cannibals so this doesn't turn into one of those kind of movies. More of a curiosity really but it's a lot easier just to look up the real Emmanuelle if you want to see what she looks like.
 There is supposedly a lesbian scene featuring Miss Arlan that was disappointingly cut from the DVD that I watched.

LOVE CAMP (1981)

 The idea of a cult of naked, hump-crazy hippies that worship Laura Gemser as a divine goddess seems like something I must have dreamed a few times in the past. Little did I know there was an actual film which put my dreams down for posterity. The plot here, what little of it there actually is, is obviously a take-off on the whole Jim Jones Jonestown massacre but with a way sexier outcome. There's a lot of things to love about this one besides just worshipping the Black Emanuelle though including Tanga, Gemser's constantly flexing-for-the-camera henchman who dispatches of those who dare leave this cult of love and mandatory orgies, a bunch of clunky 80s disco, a blonde head hippie fellow(Christian Anders, also the film's director!) who prances around like a stoned John Philip Law and of course tons of naked flesh. A goofy sexploitation ride that's a new favorite up there towards the top of the Black Emanuelle series pile probably just under EMANUELLE IN AMERICA and EMANUELLE AND THE LAST CANNIBALS for me. BLACK EMANUELLE NO 2 (1976)

 I've never seen the first BLACK EMANUELLE movie, which starred Laura Gemser, but it doesn't seem to really matter much since this doesn't seem like a real sequel. Also they switch Black Emanuelle's on us here and give us someone with the unruly name of Shulamith Lasri(crowned in the English version with the notably more Americanized name of Sharon Lesley) in the title role. This would turn out to be Miss Lasri's only film role and while she does seem more black than Gemser I'm a loyal fan of the real Black Emanuelle and find her much more entertaining to watch. This movie is a weird softcore sex flick. Weird mostly because it focuses on Emanuelle's mental problems that stem from her brother's murder and her near rape and not so much on anything all that sexy. There is one fellow who likes to hang anchors off his erect schlong to show off which I found amusing. Apart from that and lots of bare breasts, including the lovely blonde giallo-regular Dagmar Lassander, there's lots of psychological mumbo-jumbo and a plot that doesn't seem to ever go anywhere up until the very end. It does have an amusingly wonky soundtrack but it's probably safe to skip this one and stick with the original Gemser BLACK EMANUELLE sex epics for more titillating thrills. THE DRAGON LIVES AGAIN (1977)

 This one has got to be one of the strangest examples of Bruce Lee-sploitation ever. If you described the plot of this movie to your average lame-brain civilian they would probably assume you were on some heavy psychedelics.
 OK, so, intermingling reality with fantasy, Bruce Lee(or in this case Bruce Leong doing his best Bruce Lee impression) dies and is sent to this underworld where he becomes friends with Popeye, The Sailor Man and The One-Armed Swordsman, from the kung-fu flick THE ONE-ARMED SWORDSMAN. There's a gang of bad guys consisting of Zatoichi, The Blind Swordsman, Clint Eastwood and James Bond(why all these heroic characters are now evil here I have no idea, but they are). This gang is led by a couple of fellows named The Exorcist, who has an unexplained French accent, and The Godfather. I guess in Hong Kong popular movie titles make for good names. They also pal around with Emanuelle from all those soft-core classics except here she has an English accent for no reason. If this isn't enough idiotic insanity Dracula shows up along with that Cobra Kai gang in the skeletons suits(who I think are supposed to be zombies?) and a bunch of mummies. Everyone does kung fu(usually very badly!) and it all ends with Bruce Lee floating away like a balloon.   
 You might think this is a movie for children, and I would too, except there's sex scenes and very ample boobs and almost complete nakedness on display. The whole thing reminded me of on of those crazy Turkish superhero films where copyright is no issue and even Spider-Man himself might be a murdering bastard. I was fortunate enough to see an actual film print of this last night in a theater and it surely made me question my sanity. I was also a little sad that I will probably never find another Brucesploitation film that will top this in the bat-shit wacky department. AKA DEADLY HANDS OF KUNG FU

EMMANUELLE'S REVENGE (1975)

         "You tell that shithead we're not making arty-farty flicks for intellectual faggots!"

 Most of director Joe D'Amato's Emanuelle movies starred Laura Gemser as the title character who was a black version of the original French character made famous by Sylvia Kristel.  This one was before the Gemser-era so we get a different white Emanuelle whose sister is dating great character actor George Eastman who looks weird here without any facial hair on his mug.  Eastman plays a sleazy lowlife actor who  lets a film director rape his gal, convinces her to star in a porn flick, cheats on her and generally treats her shitty which results in her gory suicide by train.  From there it's time for Emanuelle's revenge which consist of seducing big George, drugging him and chaining him up behind a two-way mirror.  After this we get treated to some lesbian antics, an orgy, some fake cannibalism and other assorted sex acts that we watch from behind the mirror which I'm sure is a comment on the type of cretin who enjoys these sleazoid films.  Castration is threatened and meat-cleaver wielding shenanigans ensue.
 Co-written by one of my favorite filmmakers, the great Bruno Mattei, this film is filled with a creepy downer vibe and nihilistic ending that you don't get in a lot of sexploitation flicks and at a lot of points this feels more like a giallo than anything else which makes this one of my favs in the sexy shocker genre.  It's also supposed to be a remake of some 60's film from Greece.  There's also a pretty strong feminist message in there which you don't really expect from your average Joe D'Amato flick.
  The old VHS copy I have of this is heavily cut so look for the 100 minute version for the complete sexy and splattery show.  A.K.A. BLOOD VENGEANCE, BLOOD RAGE and EMANUELLE AND FRANCOISE
